This high-level workshop brings together cooperative leaders, policymakers, rural development officers, and NGO partners to explore strategic pathways for sustainable cooperative growth in Akwa Ibom. Sessions will focus on cooperative digital transformation, access to micro-credit, and policy alignment with national rural development goals.
Cooperatives are widely recognized as powerful instruments for grassroots empowerment and inclusive development. Globally, they have been credited with enhancing agricultural productivity, improving financial inclusion, and promoting democratic economic participation. In emerging economies, especially in rural Africa, cooperatives help close the gap between small-scale producers and large-scale markets.
Makeup Change the World
In 2024 alone, over 3,000 cooperative societies were newly registered in Nigeria, many of which directly contributed to job creation, food security, and rural financial resilience. As these numbers continue to grow, the role of digital infrastructure, leadership training, and gender inclusion becomes increasingly critical.
